Council tax benefit
Council tax benefit is help towards paying your council tax. If you have a low income whether you are claiming benefits or working, you may qualify for some help.
There are two ways that we may be able to help you:
Council tax benefit
You could qualify for all of your council tax to be paid if you are also receiving Job Seekers Allowance (Income Based), Income Support, Employment Support Allowance (Income Related) or Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit).
You could qualify for some help if you are receiving other state benefits like Employment Support Allowance (Contribution Based), State Pension or Incapacity Benefit or your earnings are low.
There is a capital limit of £16,000, so if you and/or your partner have over £16,000 then you will not qualify for any help. Savings and capital under £6,000 are ignored if you are working age. Up to £10,000 is ignored if you are a pensioner.
