Emergency Planning - What do we do?

To ensure that the UK is prepared for the impact of a disaster, the government places statutory obligations on all Local Authorities, these include:
- COMAH (Control Of Major Accident Hazard) Regulations
- PSR (Pipeline Safety Regulations)
- REPPIR (Radiation Emergency Preparedness & Public Information Regulations)
- The Civil Contingencies Act 2004
Our aim is minimise the impact on the community and environment of any disaster and ensure a managed return to normality. To achieve this aim the unit carries out a number of functions, these include:
- Preparing emergency plans
- Co-ordinating training for staff
- Testing and exercising plans and procedures
- Assisting with the management of incidents within Warrington
- Management of the council’s internal Business Continuity process
- Ensuring that the we can respond to emergency situations both during and outside of office hours
- Providing advice and assistance to businesses and voluntary organisations with regard to business continuity
We work with a number of partner agencies to agree the best way to protect the communities of Warrington and this ensures a co-ordinated response. This includes responding to incidents in partnership with emergency services and health services and supporting each other to care for the community in the longer term.
