How do we prepare for emergencies?

HM Government - Preparing for Emergencies Logo

The Civil Contingences Act places a number of duties on the council.  We ensure that the borough is prepared for an emergency by doing the following:

Risk assessment
This work underpins the rationale for each of the remaining duties.  Category 1 responders are required to undertake risk assessments of the likelihood of an emergency occurring, then to use this as the basis for future contingency planning.

Preparation of Emergency Plans
Any identified risk that does not have a plan already in place, but which is thought to pose a considerable threat will result in specific emergency response plans being produced.

Business continuity management
In order to ensure we can continue to deliver the critical aspects of our daily functions in the event of an emergency, as well as our emergency response functions we need to have business continuity plans.

Communicating with the public
Arrangements should be in place to advise the public about how they will be informed in the event of an emergency.

Co-operation and Information Sharing
All responding agencies have a duty to share information to ensure a co-ordinated approach to planning for and responding to a major emergency.

Advice & assistance to local business and voluntary agencies to promote business continuity planning
We have a duty to promote business continuity management and provide advice and assistance to businesses and voluntary organisations about business continuity management.

The Local Resilience Forum has produced a Business continuity leaflet providing further information.

Warrington Borough Council has also produced a Business Continuity leaflet as part of the promotion of business continuity to businesses within the borough.
