Statement of Licensing Policy

Under the provisions of the Licensing Act 2003 local authorities are required to prepare and determine a statement of licensing policy setting out how they will promote the four licensing objectives.

  • The prevention of crime and disorder
  • Public safety
  • The prevention of public nuisance
  • The protection of children from harm

In preparing its Statement of Licensing Policy the Council, acting as Licensing Authority consulted both statutory consultees and a wide range of other interested persons and organisations.

Following consideration of all comments and representations received the Statement of Licensing Policy PDF Logo for the three year period beginning 7 January 2008 has been determined and published.

The Policy sets out the Licensing Authority's general approach to making licensing decisions and the regulation of licensable activities.  It provides transparency for those involved in the licensing regime, including applicants for licenses or certificates, who will be able to refer to the Policy when preparing their applications.  It will also be relevant to local residents and businesses when considering whether to make representations in respect of applications, or to seek the review of an existing licence or certificate.

The Policy will be kept under review and the Licensing Authority will make revisions to it as it considers appropriate.  A full review of the Policy will take place every three years.
