Warrington Borough Council’s Business Engagement Team aims to improve the interaction and communication between the private and public sectors, working in partnership with other business support agencies to offer a tailored package of information, advice and support  to local businesses.

 

Business Location Service 

Warrington is home to a vibrant mix of commercial and industrial companies due to the combination of its excellent location and availability of a wide range of sites and premises to suit all requirements.

Employment Support 

Within the Business Engagement Team we have a dedicated Local Employment Officer who can offer advice and assistance with any issues surrounding recruitment, skills gaps & training and staff retention via targeted support or referral to the appropriate agencies.

Redundancy Action Support Team 

In addition The Cheshire & Warrington Redundancy Action Support Team, (RAST), has representatives from the three Local Authorities (Warrington, Cheshire West & Chester, Cheshire East), Business Link NW, Job Centreplus, the NWDA, Visit Chester and Cheshire, South East Cheshire Enterprises and ACAS (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service).

 

The aim of RAST is to give a coordinated, effective response to businesses by offering expertise and support on all the issues they may be facing during the recession.  RAST meets monthly to share information, to plan local responses and to identify how it can proactively help businesses in the area through the recession.

Financial Support 

There are currently a number of financial support schemes available for businesses within the Northwest.  These include grants, loans and investment options, together with new finance guarantee and insurance schemes which the Government has created to support businesses through the difficult economic climate.

Annual Property Review 

In partnership with Warrington & Co and BE Group, Warrington Borough Council produce the Warrington Annual Property Review, which looks back at activity in the commercial property market over the previous 12 months.

Business Engagement

 

Business Lunches

Regular business lunches are held at the town hall and hosted by the leader and chief executive of the council. These events provide an opportunity for people to meet, discuss topics of common interest and build relationships. Each lunch has a specific theme and a presentation is given by a keynote speaker. Previous themes have included:

  • Warrington's Waterfront and how we take forward our plans
  • The economic downturn and how we can support businesses
  • Planned improvements at Walton Hall Estate
  • The improvements at Bank Quay and Central train stations.

Attendance is by invitation only, and have no more than 18 attendees (including members and officers). To register interest to attend relevant future lunches, businesses should contact the business engagement team.

Gemini Business Forum & Burtonwood Business Watch  

There are many issues that concern Warrington businesses including: crime, the environment, legislation, business support and transport. The Gemini Business Networking Forum and Burtonwood Business Watch Scheme, were both set up by the council in conjunction with Cheshire Police, to provide an opportunity for the businesses in these locations to network with a variety of public and private sector organisations and find out what changes are happening in and around Gemini, Burtonwood, Warrington and the general business environment.
 
Specific areas of interest are indentified and suggested by attendees and guest speakers are invited to attend meetings.
 
All businesses at Gemini and Burtonwood industrial estate are welcome to join their respective networking group. For further information, contact the business engagement team.
