Fridges & Freezers

Legislation

In January 2002 the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Regulations came into force for domestic appliances. These regulations require the removal of CFCs and HCFCs from refrigeration equipment before recycling or disposal of the appliance.

It is estimated that some 2.5 million domestic fridges and freezers are replaced each year in the UK. Traditionally the appliances have been exported but the ODS Regulations prohibit such export whilst the equipment contains CFCs.

Further information about the ODS Regulations is available on the following website www.dti.gov.uk External Link

Collection & Recycling

A free collection service exists to take away your unwanted fridges and freezers for recycling; arrangements are also in hand to safely remove unwanted CFC gases present in fridges and freezers. This will ensure that the appropriate action is taken to protect our environment. To arrange removal of an unwanted fridge or freezer please contact us

Bulky Bob's, who are a waste management and recycling social business, collect the appliances on behalf of CREATE.  Bulky Bob's is a real life example of 'joined up service delivery' showing how a local authority can achieve best value, improve services, tackle poverty and support the growth and sustainability of social enterprise.  Collected goods are safely recycled.  For further information please visit www.frcgroup.co.uk
