Textiles

 

ShirtIt is estimated that some 650,000 tonnes of textiles are generated each year, with approximately 200,000 being re-used or recycled. Charity shops will be happy to take your unwanted textiles and shoes. You can also use the textile and shoe recycling containers at your local recycling site External Link

What happens to your unwanted textiles and shoes? Textiles collected from households are separated, some will be re-used as clothing whilst others will be recycled for other uses.

ShoesApproximately - 70% will be used as second hand goods both in the UK and the developing countries; 7% becomes wiping cloths for industry; 9% will become filling material (e.g. for mattresses and insulation); 8% is used in the fibre reclamation industry and 6% is waste (zips etc).
