BT consultation - removal of public payphones

The council has recommended that objections be made to nine of the 11 local payphones proposed for closure by BT.

The final recommendation was made following two rounds of consultation with residents, ward councillors, local organisations and parish councils.

The final notification has now been published along with the schedule of phone boxes, which outlines the reasons for each objection.

If there are any appeals to the council’s final recommendation, where the council has objected to the closure of the phone box, the Competition Appeal Tribunal will decide on the future of the phone box.

Information on the full process of removing public payphones, and the rules which must be followed, is available in the plain English guide to removing public call boxes.
