Council Tax Benefit
If you are on a low income, you may be entitled to Council Tax Benefit. There are two ways we may be able to help you.
Council Tax Benefit
You can get this if you are on a low income. The amount of Benefit you will get will depend on your income and who lives with you. If you get Jobseekers Allowance/Income Support or the Pensioners Guarantee credit you probably won't have any Council Tax to pay.
You cannot get Council Tax Benefit if you have got savings or capital above £16,000 unless you receive Pensioners Guaranteed Credit, You may be entitled to a reduction in your Council Tax if you have savings or capital below £16,000.
Please note that we ignore any savings below £6000. We also ignore any War Pensions or War Widows Pensions. If you get Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, and Pension Credit or have a low income you may not have to pay all of your Council Tax.
Second Adult Rebate
You may be able to get this if there are people other than your partner living in your home who are on a low income.
Please ring the following number for further details: 01925 443210
You cannot get both Council Tax Benefit and Second Adult Rebate at the same time. If you qualify for both, we will work out which is the best for you and award you the benefit. This is called "the better buy" calculation.
The figures shown in the table are a guide to who can get benefit and are based on BAND A Council Tax. They cannot cover everyone's circumstances.
