Disability Equality Scheme
This is Warrington Borough Council’s Disability Equality Scheme for 2007 – 2010. The production of a Disability Equality Scheme is one of the ‘specific duties’ of the new Disability Discrimination Act 2005.
This Scheme sets out the framework within which Warrington Council can promote equality for, and prevent discrimination against, disabled people as users of our services, as our employees and as members of the community.
The Scheme also outlines the council’s 5 objectives. They are:
- We will promote equality for people who are disabled
- We will tackle discrimination against people who are disabled
- We will support people who are disabled to achieve their full potential
- We will work in partnership with people who are disabled
- We will meet our legal obligations and the equalities standard
This scheme will be reviewed annually by the council and will be subject to consultation with stakeholders and the community.
