Corporate Equality and Diversity Policy
This policy provides a framework for developing equality within our arrangements for service delivery and employment. We have prepared this in line with the requirements of the Equality Standards for Local Government, and also to ensure that our policies and procedures are compliant with current law and forthcoming legislation.
We will also seek to comply with codes of practice and guidance published by national equalities bodies and commissions, and will engage with residents, customers and other partners within the public, private, voluntary and community sectors to ensure our policy is reaching our diverse communities in an effort to address all needs. This commitment is also expressed in our Corporate Plan.
We want to do all we can to promote equality through the services we provide, the influence we have as community leader and as a good local employer.
The policy applies to all those that come into contact with, and work in, the council including: -
- Residents within the borough
- Customers accessing services
- Employees
- Potential customers, residents and job applicants
- Contractors, stakeholders and partners
- Elected members
- Local Business Sector
The council aims to ensure that no one receives less favourable treatment for reasons relating to:
- Race, ethnicity, or national origin
- Gender
- Marital status
- Sexuality
- Disability
- Religion or Belief
- Age
- Trade Union Activity or Political Belief
- Social class
- The rehabilitation of former offenders
