First admission to school

The admission of your child to the reception year of a primary or infant school is a very important step for your child.

The most important part of stating a preference of a school for your child, is to pay a visit to the ones that interest you.  Click the following link for contact details of the primary schools in Warrington

Key application deadlines for a place at an infant or primary school
If your child was born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006, they will be due to start infant or primary school in September 2010.

The purpose of the booklet below is to answer the questions and concerns parents often raise about admission to primary school and to tell you about your rights. We have also included extra information about primary education, which you may find useful.

Under the new co-ordinated admissions legislation, all applications, whether or not you live within the Warrington borough, for a Warrington school will have to be made through the Warrington local authority (LA). The timetable for admission to primary school, is as follows:

After 14 September 2009 - Booklets and preference forms available from Warrington primary and infant schools or the School Admissions Team (01925 442952) upon request.

10 November 2009 - Closing date for returning completed preference form to the Admissions Team, Children's Services, New Town House, Buttermarket St, Warrington WA1 2NJ. If you have misplaced your form please contact the Admissions team on any of the numbers given at the bottom of this page. Please note any late applications will only be considered after the main allocation of places is finished. If you do not return your form, it will reduce our ability to meet the preference for schools that you express.

APPLY ON LINE AT www.warrington.gov.uk/admissions

19 March 2010 - Allocation and refusal letter sent out to parent/carers - you should expect to receive this letter by Wednesday 24 March 2010.

12 April 2010  - Closing date for receipt of primary appeals.

May 2009 - Appeal hearings arranged

Questions about admissions to school are complex and are not easily answered in brief responses. If you are in any doubt about anything you read in the booklets (see links below to view the booklets), you should seek clarification by making contact with the admissions team.
