How can I dispose of large household items?

As part of our bulky waste collection service we will collect and dispose of your ‘bulky’ household items.

As a general rule, anything that you might take with you when you move house we will collect such as furniture (chests, wardrobes, dressers etc), carpets, beds, mattresses, bicycles, exercise equipment, garden equipment and the like.

Is there a charge for the service?

We charge for the collection of bulky household items as follows:

- Up to 3 items £20 (£17.02 +VAT)
- For each additional item a charge of £6.67 (inc VAT) applies.

If you request a bulky collection, the exact cost of your collection will be confirmed to you before a collection date is arranged. If you are unhappy with the cost, you are free to cancel your request.

If you claim Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit, you are entitled to request one free collection of 3 items, per household, per year (a year being from the 1st April to the 31st of March). You will need to provide us with your property address, benefit reference number and your National Insurance number if you wish to claim this free service, as we need to verify that you are in receipt of benefit.  You will be sent a form to complete and return to us confirming these details.

If you are in receipt of another benefit such as Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credits etc, please contact us to enquire whether you qualify for a free collection.

How do I know when my items will be collected?

Collections take place daily in different areas of the town.

If you request the bulky collection service by telephone, we will arrange a collection date with you. If the request is made by email or by using the online form, you will be contacted within 2 working days to arrange a collection date.

Unfortunately we are not able to specify a time of collection - items will be collected between 8am and 3.30pm on the day of the collection.

Where do I leave items for collection

Items for collection should be left at the front of the property, but we will collect items from the side subject to them being easily accessible.

We offer an assisted collection service for goods which cannot be left outside the property but certain restrictions apply. You must tell us if you need an assisted collection.

Collectors will not disconnect appliances, remove loose waste or dismantle furniture. We aim to recycle collected goods where possible, so please keep items covered up or indoors where possible.

  • Items for collection should be left at a prearranged collection point, not all over the property.
  • Where possible, all items for collection should be clearly labelled.
  • All items must remain within the curtilage of the property and not spill over onto the public highway.
  • If you have added extra items for collection and not told us or changed the description of the items you want us to collect. These items will not be collected.

How can I dispose of bulky items that you won't ?

You can take such items free of charge to our community recycling centres at:

  • New Cut Lane, Woolston
  • Sandy Lane, Stockton Heath
  • Gateworth, Off Barnard Street, Sankey Bridges.

These centres are open everyday except Christmas Day and New Years Day. For further information and opening times for the recycling centres in Warrington, please see our Waste Management webpages or contact us.

Alternatively we offer a 'visit and price service' - our customer services advisors will inform you if this service is applicable. This is a free quotation service. A member of the collection team may visit you to assess whether the council is able to remove the items for you.
