Who looks after the roads and highways in and around Warrington?
Warrington Borough Council's highways team is responsible for maintaining all public roads and highways across the borough except for motorways and trunk roads. These roads are essential to its residents, businesses and visitors, and require regular and careful maintenance.
Why is road maintenance important?
Above all, safety. Badly maintained roads may result in more accidents and more injuries to drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other road users.
Another factor is cost. By carrying out regular and careful maintenance it means that roads and pavements are less likely to need major rebuilding. Therefore the overall cost of keeping Warrington's roads in good condition is less, if we inspect and maintain them regularly.
Does the council monitor the condition of Warrington's roads and pavements?
A team of specialist engineers carries out regular inspections of all Warrington's roads and pavements – both as a matter of routine and in response to reports from members of the public.
Do you produce information of any significant planned road works where delays may exist?

How do I report branches of a tree that are overhanging on the highway and are posing a threat to the safety of cars and pedestrians?
We are responsible for the maintenance of 6500km of road network. Many of these roads have associated land or verges, which are deemed to belong to us. Any trees situated on these areas are also deemed to be the responsibility of this authority.
Privately owned trees or hedges or they become overhanging may create problems for pedestrians walking along the pavement or a public right of way are an obstruction. As an authority we can formally request for householders to cut them back or failing this, by law, our officers may have to step in, cut back the overgrown trees or hedges and bill the householder for the cost of the work. To report an overhanging hedge or tree obstructing the highway, please call Contact Warrington on 01925 443322 or email contact@warrington.gov.uk
Who do I contact about gritting and salting my road?
The council provides a winter maintenance service to allow the movement of traffic on particular roads, and to minimise the delays caused by adverse weather conditions. The key services include gritting/salting in advance of frost, ice or snow, snow ploughing, footway sweeping and the provision of grit/salt bins. More information on winter highway gritting.

Permits are normally issued allowing a skip to be placed on the highway for a duration of two weeks, although this is reduced to one week on main roads.
All skips on the highway must be lit at each corner and the ends of the skip are to be painted yellow.
Any skip found on the highway without a valid permit will be removed and the cost of the removal charged to the skip provider.
