What is Supporting People
What is Supporting People?
Most of us want to live independently in our own homes. But many people still need some help and support.
They might need support because they are young and at risk or older and in need of a helping hand. They may have a physical, sensory or learning disability, they may be homeless, at risk of domestic violence or have a drug or alcohol dependency.
Other people Supporting People can help include;
- People with long-term illness
- People with mental illness
- Vulnerable lone parents
- Ex-prisoners or offenders
- Refugees
Supporting People pays for support services including:
- Support workers
- Warden services
- Community alarms
- Floating support services
What is Support?
Supporting People is about guidance, practical advice and help, aimed at supporting people to sustain their own accommodation. It could include;
- Someone who helps you to manage your money and pay your bills.
- A community alarm service or a warden or scheme manager who is there in case you need help.
- Someone who helps you to learn how to live independently.
- Someone who helps you to learn how to follow the rules in your tenancy agreement
Supporting People does not pay for any care that you receive. This continues to be paid for separately. For example, someone who makes your meals or washes your hair provides care which Supporting People does not pay for.
Ensuring Quality Services
Housing related support is paid for by the Supporting People fund.
It is our job to make sure that the housing-related support services we pay for in Warrington are of good quality, give value for money and are exactly the right services that the people of Warrington need.
To be sure, we are reviewing all services and we want to know what you have to say about them.
Over time these reviews will help to improve the services in Warrington.
