Legacy products from our Beacon year

1. Walk a mile in my shoes

A guide for the scrutiny of dignity and respect for individuals in health and social care services and is a legacy product from our beacon award. Although it's a guide for Overview and Scrutiny Committees, it's also a very good general guide with definitions, role of scrutiny in this area, national context, commissioning, policy and legislation, and examples of good practice nationally including examples from Warrington.

Download the guide.

The guide is supported by presentation and a set of exercises, which can be used by Overview and Scrutiny Committees to inform their work.

2. Checking Out Project

Checking Out is an exciting peer reviewing project based in Warrington. The project gives a voice to people with learning difficulties in order to check out, comment on and influence the quality of supported living provision locally.

The Checking Out project was one of the projects that Warrington Borough Council highlighted to achieve beacon status within Dignity in Care in 2008. An information and resource pack has been designed in order to share the success and learning of the project as well as to provide tools to support local authorities to develop similar initiatives.

3. Your Life, Your Say

The focus of the Your Life, Your Say project is to enable older people receiving care and support within residential and nursing care settings to express their views about what life is like for them. This is a unique project that works alongside a team of trained volunteer visitors representing older people in Warrington.
