How can we all help?
There are a number of ways that everyone can help to support Warrington’s wildlife.
You can provide direct help to wildlife by putting out food and nest boxes for birds, and planting flowers that attract insects in your garden. This helps to offset the habitat that has been lost. If you have a pond in your garden, it will be rapidly colonised by frogs, which will help to keep down garden pests and reduce the need for harmful chemicals.
You can help to stop the downgrading of valuable habitat by reporting any fly tipping of rubbish and supporting opposition to developments that will be harmful to wildlife.
Warrington Ranger Service
We have a highly dedicated group of Rangers who play a major role in promoting the wildlife cause. They manage and maintain the sites and have considerable knowledge about our local wildlife, and what needs to be done for it to flourish. In addition to their ‘hands on’ work, they organise events to inform and educate the public about the plants, animals, birds and insects that can be seen. Leaflets on forthcoming events and local wildlife attractions can be found in your local Ranger Centre or library.

Volunteering opportunities with BTCV
If you would like to contribute physically to nature conservation, why not join in the work of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, which aims to support individuals and communities in taking voluntary action to improve and sustain their local environment.
BTCV’s Halton and Warrington Midweek Conservation Volunteer Group provides opportunities for local people to get involved in the management of countryside and wildlife sites and meets every Wednesday and Friday. Volunteers are picked up at town centre locations in Runcorn, Widnes and Warrington and are taken to the day’s worksite in the BTCV minibus. No experience is needed as leaders are on hand to provide full instruction at the start of every project and ensure that everyone is working safely and effectively during the day.
