Smart Cards - Warrington's Passport to Services

Smartcard

What is a Smart Card?
A Smart Card is the same size as a credit card, and it will display your photograph, name and optionally other details. Each Smart Card has a small microchip inside it enabling you to access - quickly and securely - certain council services to which you are entitled.

Why introduce Smart Cards?

”Your passport to Services”, Warrington’s local Smart Card, will mean people using council services such as libraries and sports centres will just need the one card to access all services rather than a separate card for each service.  As well as making it easier for you to access a range of services it will also offer incentives to you to do so.

When are we introducing the Smart Card?

Smart Cards are being introduced on a six-month pilot which commenced on 11 December and will run across a series of venues around the Borough.  In particular our leisure centres, libraries and Pyramid and Parr Hall.  A list of these have been detailed below.

Who have they been issued to?

We have taken a cross-section of approximately 500 people from our registered library and leisure members as well as users of our Pyramid and Parr Hall venue.
As part of the pilot, we will monitor the amount of visits by each Smart Card user to each of the venues listed, which will allow us to track trends in usage and whether by using this card it will encourage our users to visit other establishments.

Following the six-month pilot, the Smart Card will be reviewed and consulted on with a view to rolling this out Borough-wide and increasing services that the Smart Card will offer such as, loyalty schemes, cash card, travel pass, privileges in shops etc

If you are interested in finding out more, or wish to discuss how you would like to see the Smart Card developed then please email kbrown@warrington.gov.uk or call Karen on 01925 246486.
