Good for Warrington

ADULT social services in Warrington have been found to be serving local people well.

In receiving a two star rating in the 2007 Performance Assessment of Adult Social Services, Warrington is judged to be delivering ‘good outcomes for local people with promising capacity to Improve.

The Commission for Social Care Inspectorate, which carries out the assessments, found that during 2006-7 the council had delivered improved performance against its priorities, continuing to support the independence of people who use the services.

The council had secured services at a justifiable cost and had a good track record in achieving efficiencies.  There had also been a significant improvement in the set of performance measures used to compare council performance.

Areas of strength included ensuring people with complex and challenging needs remained as independent as possible and excellent achievement in maintaining dignity and respect. The council consulted well with people who use services and their carers and they were enabled to make informed choices.

Roy Smith, Executive Board member for community services, says:

“This result confirms that despite increased levels of demand for general and specialist care services, the council succeeded in delivering positive outcomes for vulnerable people.

“Our continuing priority is to ensure that people who use services and their carers are involved at all levels of planning and delivering services; and we work effectively across the borough to promote choice, independence and well-being. It is a real vote of confidence in the staff who work to provide social care to the people of Warrington.”
