Cycle Warrington
A NEW cycle guide and map is available.
Produced by Warrington Cycle Forum in partnership with the council, it’s a must for everyone in Warrington who would like to cycle, whether for pleasure, health, the environment or just as transport, to get around town quickly and easily.
Put together by experienced cyclists, A Guide to Cycling in Warrington, Issue 1 consists of the knowledge and advice of people from all parts of Warrington.
And 10,000 copies are being distributed to leisure centres, libraries and Contact Warrington on Horsemarket Street. In the spring, a second issue of the guide will be printed with a copy distributed to every household in the borough.
In a change from the normal route based maps this one grades every road in the borough according to the level of experience a cyclist might need to use that road.
There are five grades from yellow, which might be quiet residential streets, through green, blue and pink to purple roads which require a good level of experience and awareness of the road conditions. It will also offer alternative routes if you are already commuting on your bike, routes which might be more direct or quieter.
Also shown on the map are the off-road cycle routes and greenways where cycling is permitted. The cycle parking locations and cycle shops in the town are also detailed. The guide has information on the health benefits, parking, safety and training. There are also sections giving advice to cyclists and to motorists. The borough wide overview map includes distance marking and expected times to complete a mile.
The Warrington Cycle Forum meets every quarter. Anyone interested is welcome to attend and discuss all matters cycling, from new routes and junction improvements to what policies and strategies should be adopted. The group meet at The Gateway on Sankey Street, for more details see the council website at www.warrington.gov.uk/warringtoncycleforum
