Pride of place

MORE people voted for Warrington in the Pride of Place awards than anywhere else in the north west.
Figures released by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) show Warrington residents cast 871 votes, ranking the borough at number 6 in the national poll.
The Pride of Place awards asked citizens to name the place which made them most proud of their area, while also encouraging them to access their local authority services online - as they used the council website to place their vote.
The clear winner in Warrington was Barley Mow, which scooped almost 52% of all the overall votes in the borough. Other entrants from the borough included Bridge Foot, the Warrington Guardians (or ‘skittles’) and the town hall and gates.
Barley Mow held off competition from sites in 13 local authorities across the north west, including Manchester United Football Club and Werneth Low Country Park to be crowned the region’s favourite.
Leader of the council, Cllr Ian Marks, said: “Thanks must go to all the residents who showed their pride in Warrington by taking part in the poll.
“Pride of Place was a chance for everyone to vote for the great things happening in their area and we are delighted that the people of Warrington have come up trumps once again.”
