Guardians of green spaces

A GROUP of Warrington volunteers is set to become the voice for the town’s wide variety of parks, green spaces and waterways.

The newly created Parks and Green Spaces Forum, launched today, Tuesday 29 July, at the town hall, is made up of representatives from the many voluntary groups that use, support and have a direct interest in Warrington’s extensive ’green spaces’ network.

They will play a key role in matters affecting their future provision and use including:

- Parks and green spaces including ‘friends of,’ and resident / project groups
- Water spaces and angling
- Sports
- Bereavement related services including cemeteries, crematorium and closed churchyards
- Nature reserves
- Allotments and leisure gardens

Directly supported by the council’s new Project Delivery Team, the forum is already recognised as a major stakeholder with regard to decisions affecting the town’s green spaces and their future use and development.

Dianne Jones, Chair of the Forum’s steering committee is delighted to announce the launch.

She said: “We will be looking at a variety of topics and through sharing knowledge and information, talking about possibilities and problems we will seek to positively influence the continued development and improvement of Warrington’s parks, green spaces, and waterways’. We have some exciting times ahead and can’t wait to really get going.”

Cllr Alan Litton, Executive Board member for environment, said: “The new Parks and Green Spaces Forum has been invited to work with the council, to support the town’s new Regeneration Framework and to contribute directly to its planned delivery programme for the redevelopment of Warrington’s parks, green spaces and waterways. “
