Westy Park transformation
Westy Park is set to be transformed thanks to two new initiatives for Warrington.
The newly formed Friends of Westy Park joined forces with the council’s new Green Spaces Project Delivery Team and secured £50,000 from Waste Recycling Group Ltd administered through WREN under the Landfill Communities Fund for the first phase of improvements to Westy Park, located off Bridgewater Avenue Westy.
This priority project of the Communities Vision - Park Redevelopment Plan, includes a synthetic surfaced multi sport activity area.
This new attraction will provide all year round access, free of charge, to a dedicated area suitable for a wide range of sports and activity including; 5 a-side soccer, basketball, netball, and other ball based sports and general training and fitness use.
Both casual and organised use of the facility will be available to the community and park visitors.
Work is now being planned with local groups and young people to further develop events programmes leading to increased use and activity aimed at improving health through sport and recreation.
Cllr Bob Barr, Executive Board member for planning, regeneration and housing, said:
"This WREN award marks the start of a wider ambitious programme, supporting the delivery of the town’s Regeneration Framework and its planned Green Space delivery programme of projects to improve and further develop Warrington’s Parks Green Spaces and Waterways.
"It is also an example of what can be achieved when groups and organisations work together."
Cllr Steve Wright, chair of the Friends of Westy Park, said: "We are delighted that we can start to work on actual improvements to the park, which all the community can enjoy."
