Flaky breaky art!

The mysterious disappearing paintings of a local artist are on show at the Warrington Museum and Art Gallery this summer.

Some of Oswald Garside’s (1869-1942) stunning paintings are flaking away before our very eyes due to the unique and unknown methods he used to create the work.

Luckily, a grant from MLA North West has enabled the museum to conserve eight of the paintings, which will be on display from 12 July to 11 October 2008.

The exhibition Flaky Breaky Art: Conserving the work of Oswald Garside will feature more than twenty works from Garside and also explore his life and work, the techniques he may have used and the conservation of his paintings.

Paintings from contemporary mixed media artist Jan Gardner will also be on display.
