Classic day

A great day was had by all on Saturday as classic cars drove in to Warrington Market.

This was the first car show of its kind in the town centre and it attracted a lot of attention, with customers flocking to the market to see them.

The fascination for the cars supplied by North West Casual Classics spanned all ages; with the old reminiscing about when they owned one and the young learning about the illustrious motor history.

A 1958 double decker bus from the St Helens Bus Museum and a Jaguar Formula one car were the highlights on display. Customers were given an opportunity to get close to the Jaguar, which was very popular with just about everyone wanting to squeeze the tyres or just touch the bodywork.

There was also an opportunity for the market to go open air again, as some traders set up outside for the day to capture the atmosphere and show new shoppers what the market has to offer.

A short documentary was made on the day presented by television presenter Mark Olly, famous for his series called “Lost Treasures” now showing on Granada. The Market Car Show film is available to view on the television screens inside the market, or using the internet at www.warringtonmarket.co.uk.  The market web site also has a gallery of photographs taken on the day.

Cllr Bob Barr, Executive Board member for planning, regeneration and housing said,

“We are working hard to put on scheduled events of interest throughout the year in the town centre. This show went down very well with shoppers, so much so that it is likely to become an annual event, growing in size each year.
“These events aim to attract new and regular shoppers to the area who will know what to look forward to. Events such as the car show, the continental market and the green market experience have all been successes and are in the plan for future years.”

If you missed this show and would like to see the North West Casual Classics, they are holding their own event at Fiddlers Ferry on Sunday 13 July.
