And the winner is…

The winner of Frankenstein’s Pet was revealed this week at St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School in Penketh.

Eight year old, Kierran McCracken was in shock as it was announced in the school’s weekly assembly that he was the overall winner of the competition run by the council, Warrington Guardian and Borders.

His entry caught local children’s author / illustrator and animation creator Curtis Jobling’s eye for being unique and showing an outstanding attention to detail.

Kierran described his pet as “unique because he is noble and faithful as a horse, wise as an owl, intelligent as a dolphin, free as an eagle, fast as a panther, strong as a tiger, brave as a lion and will be a great help and friend for my future.’

Kierran’s prize was a visit and animation talk from Curtis and a set of his signed books; Frankenstein’s Cat, My Daddy and Cheeky Monkey for his school. He was also presented with his very own signed copy of ‘The Skeleton in the Closet’, illustrated by Curtis Jobling and written by Alice Schertle.

The staff and children are very proud of Kierran and really enjoyed seeing and hearing about his competition-winning entry. They were also fascinated by Curtis’ amazing drawing skills.

Borders awarded a special mention to Charlie Haining, 8, of St Matthews Primary School in Stretton for his entry, which caught their eye and he was given a prize.

Curtis was delighted with the overwhelming response to the competition open to primary school children in Warrington. He said,

“There is a lot of imagination in Warrington and this was a difficult decision to judge the winner. The children that entered showed creativity and thought and should be commended for that.
“Kierran’s entry was eye catching and he had really thought about the importance of each animal’s body part that he had used in his entry. It showed that a lot of time, research and dedication had gone in to his pet.”
