Industrial action - updated: bin collections/school closures
Unison and Unite (T&G) have notified the council of a national two-day strike by their members on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July, following a recent ballot.
Although this is a national issue, there will be local implications on the day.
There may be disruption to council services, however, every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.
The following libraries will be closed both days:
Birchwood
Burtonwood*
Culcheth*
Grappenhall
Great Sankey*
Lymm
Orford*
Padgate
Penketh*
Stockton Heath*
Warrington (Warrington museum will be open)
Westbrook
Woolston*
*usually closed on Wednesdays
The following community centres will be closed both days:
Bewsey Gym
Burtonwood
Capesthorne
Culcheth Age Concern
Greenwood
Sandy Lane
Whitecross (telephones will be manned)
At this stage all leisure centres, Pyramid and Parr Hall and lifelong learning based at the Halliwell Jones stadium will all be open.
The closure of schools (either fully or partially) is a matter for individual Headteachers in consultation with the Chair of Governors, following a risk assessment. However, we understand that, where schools may be adversely affected, the Headteacher will be advising parents direct, as soon as possible.
Refuse collection services
Domestic collections (black bin)
There will be NO COLLECTIONS on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The next collection will be on the usual day next week. You can present a maximum of THREE additional side sacks for collection. This side waste will be collected by a separate vehicle, so be aware that there will be two visits to your property on the day of collection.
Recycling collections (blue and green bins)
There will be NO RECYCLING COLLECTIONS until the next scheduled day of collection (check your recycling calendar for dates). Please make use of the community recycling centres which are operating as normal.
Commercial waste collections are operating as normal.
Schools
Some schools in Warrington are affected by the strike action by members of Unison and Unite (T&G).
