Team read

It’s happening at a library near you this summer. Are you ready to take the challenge?

Team Read is the reading challenge in libraries this summer as part of the National Year of Reading. The aim of the sports - themed challenge is to read six books from the library before you return to school in September. They can be any books you like – novels, fact books, picture books, joke books – it’s up to you – so go on and stretch yourself!

When you have read two books you’ve reached the bronze stage. When you’ve read two more, you’ll get your silver medal. And those of you who read all six books will get the gold! There are various rewards to collect along the way. The scheme is aimed at children from 4 – 11 years old.

So how do you get started? Visit your local library and sign up to Team Read and you will receive your membership card and a poster. Each time you visit the library during the summer take your card with you and return your books – choosing two to tell your coach (librarian) about and earn your rewards.

Tom Palmer, writer and football fan launched ‘Team Read’ on a recent visit to the town to promote his latest children’s book ‘Foul Play’, with a football themed reading game.

Kick off your summer holidays with the ‘Super Sporty story time’ on Tuesday 5 and Thursday 7 August, from 11am – 12noon at Central library. The event will involve reading, crafts and games. All children must be accompanied by an adult, please book your place either by calling in to the library or calling 442894.

National Year of Reading is about encouraging parents, children and young people to join their local library and take part in an on-going programme of activity.

Warrington libraries have lots of free resources and a host of services to support reading including reading challenges, internet access, baby rhyme times, readers’ groups and author events.
