Unsung hero alert
Do you know a young citizen that goes the extra mile for their neighbour, school or town?
If you do then the Mayor Cllr Graham Welborn wants to hear from you. The mayor wants to commend these young unsung heroes for work that they do in their community.
The Young Citizen of the Year Award is set to continue this year after being a huge success last year. Will Judge, from Sir Thomas Boteler, was this year’s winner of the prestigious award. Will was nominated for his dedication and involvement in school activities.
Young people will continue to have their valuable contribution to society recognised as the mayor continues with Warrington Young Citizen Award.
Cllr Welborn said: “It is important that we continue to recognise the valuable contribution that young people in the borough make to society through volunteering their time to assisting others, in particular an elder member of the community.”
The awards will continue to focus on achievement, good citizenship and service to others. Do you know a young person who:
- Fundraises for charity?
- Takes part in a buddy scheme – helping peers or younger children with their reading?
- Takes part in voluntary activities or goes out of their way to help?
- Or is just an asset to you and brightens up your day with the little things they do?
The awards are open to any young person between the ages of seven and 18 and nominations are welcomed from schools, colleges, members of the public, family, friends, youth groups or any other organisations.
The Mayor of Warrington will present awards for the ‘Young Citizen of the Month’ and all monthly winners will be entered into the running for the grand final, Warrington’s ‘Young Citizen of the Year’ award next May.
This year the monthly winner will receive a visit from the Mayor and Mayoress to present the award to either their school or organisation depending on the reason for nomination. The finale will be held at the Town Hall and monthly winners will get a tour of the town hall before the presentation.
