No longer a vision

A state of the art Culcheth High School has been given the green light after plans were approved by the council.

Work will begin in January 2009 to create the new school; the plans show a modern building with a central ‘street’ creating the heart of the school. There will be balconies connecting classrooms and spacious areas for study.

All spaces will be airy, modern and flexible including the high-tech Humanities Conference Centre which will support the schools Humanities specialism and be adaptable for community use. The architecture and planned technology is set to revolutionise the learning experience of a pupil in the 21st Century.

The contemporary school was designed by award winning architects Building Design Partnership. It is planned to open in September 2010 and will offer a range of community facilities, transformational learning environments and innovative ICT.

Martyn Froggett, Headteacher of Culcheth High School, said “This investment offers a unique chance to re-launch education and give youngsters of Culcheth and neighbouring communities an opportunity to experience learning in a modern and dynamic environment. We are looking forward to the new opportunities that the new school will bring.”

Cllr Sheila Woodyatt, Executive Board Member for Children’s Services said; “This will be a 21st century school and provide a 21st century environment in which children can learn. I particularly like the idea of the ‘street’ being at the heart of the school and that there will be full community use. This has all the makings of a great facility for Culcheth and the wider community.”
