Weather warnings

Weather alert

Update at 10.45am, Wednesday 12 March

Flood warnings have been downgraded to floodwatch status for Knutsford Road, Arpley Bridge, Fiddlers Ferry and Kingsway North. Hundreds of addresses have received sandbags and advisory notices of what action to take in a flood.

A lorry has struck a bridge at Orford Road, affecting train services in and out of Warrington and many mainline routes in the north west are now facing cancellations and/or severe delays.

Thelwall viaduct remains closedand there have also been reports of an overturned vehicle on Hilden Island. The A50, A49, M60, M61, M56 are all gridlocked or experiencing very heavy traffic.

Three trees were reported to have blown down during the night but these have all been dealt with by tree crews.

Advice remains the same - do not travel unless it is necessary - stay in, tune in to local radio/internet for further updates and check travel news before going out.

Where possible, people may want to consider travelling earlier or later to avoid the worst of the rain and wind.
The council website will be updated with further information, as will Cheshire Police, Highways Agency and BBC News sites.
