Praise for happy school
ST PETER’S Catholic Primary was singled out in a recent OFSTED report ‘as a really special place’.
And the inspector told the pupils ‘nothing is more important about it than all of you’.
These are just some of the positive comments that came out of a recent OFSTED report.
Inspectors commended the school as being ‘good’ and the quality of teaching and learning was complimented on in the report as ‘good and every member of staff is, ‘willing to go the extra mile’ to care for the pupils and help them learn’.
The school was praised for the ‘outstanding’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, were ‘behaviour is good and can be exemplary’ contributes significantly to pupils’ excellent attendance, learning and very good relationships.
The new ‘creative curriculum’ initiative was praised as being effective in developing pupils’ skills. In particular, the Year 6 study of ‘Macbeth’ required pupils to use ‘enquiry, research, publishing, dram and art skills’.
St Peter’s has achieved Healthy School status and Activemark status for the quality of its sports programme. The report stated ‘it was clear that pupils had an extensive knowledge of how to stay fit and healthy’. Playtimes are active and the play leaders did ‘an excellent job of introducing games to the younger pupils at lunchtime’.
The inspectors noted the ‘children’s independence and curiosity’ which is encouraged from the moment they start school with pupils being encouraged to take part in activities in the school and parish. Pupils are ‘confident learners’ who ‘take care of their environment’, this was highlighted by their fundraising for local charities and appeals.
The school also recently had an inspection by the Archdiocese of Liverpool, which found the school’s provision for Religious Education as good. It praised the school for its outstanding contribution to learners’ spiritual and moral development.
Sue Mc William said “I am really pleased for pupils’, parents, teachers and staff that their hard work has been recognised in this OFSTED report.
“In addition to recognising our academic successes, the inspection team realised there was much more than that to life at St Peter’s Catholic Primary.
“We have worked hard to offer children opportunities to flourish in their environment and I am delighted that the confidence that this has instilled in them has been recognized.”
Rosemary Kenny, Chair of Governors says; I’d like to congratulate everyone at the school who have contributed to this report – the fact that we have been singled out as a ‘special’ and ‘happy’ school is a credit to teachers, staff, senior management and parents, who make St Peter’s Catholic Primary as outstanding as it is.”
