Monkey Muffins have the X factor!
ST MATTHEWS’ reception pupil Fergus Stevenson, 5, has livened up school menus across Warrington with his Monkey Muffin recipe.
The school council ran an ‘X Factor Puddings’ recipe competition asking pupils to come up with a pudding recipe. The competition idea was based on a recent OFSTED report recommending that pupils should have a greater say in the content of their school menu.
Fergus’s winning entry was a muffin containing sultanas and banana and it impressed the council’s catering management team so much that ‘Fergus Monkey Muffins’ have been introduced to the summer menu. The muffins comply with the School Food Trust Legislation for school food and are being enjoyed by children throughout the borough.
Fergus was delighted to have his recipe chosen and never imagined that it would go on all the school menus in Warrington,
“I am so happy I won. My monkey muffins are the best.”
Cllr Sheila Woodyatt Executive Board member for Children’s Services said,
“This is a fantastic way of getting pupils to have more say in their school meals and encouraging them to eat healthily, and further work will be done on this front in the future. Fergus has excelled himself with his Monkey Muffins recipe and deserves the recognition of it appearing on all the primary school menus in the borough. They are delicious.”
