GIVING a big thumbs up to what our young people do in our community.

That’s what the Mayor’s young citizen award is all about.

The award is presented to young people between the ages of seven and 18, who have gone the extra mile for their neighbour, school or town. It focuses on achievement, good citizenship and service to others.

Chris Manning, 15, from Great Sankey, pictured with the Mayor and Mayoress Graham and Welborn, is the latest winner of the award and we are looking for people to join him. Chris is a youth volunteer for the Warrington Association for Special Children and does a lot of tremendous work in the community with disabled and underprivileged children.

So if you know of a young person who fits the bill then stop what you are doing and nominate them for this prestigious award.

There are monthly awards and at the end of the Mayoral year in May all the winners will be put forward for the grand finale at the town hall.

Download and application form www.warrington.gov.uk/councilanddemocracy or contact Civic Office, Town Hall, Sankey Street, Warrington WA1 1UH or email Julia Pickering, Civic Officer, at jpickering@warrington.gov.uk

The closing date for applications for the monthly awards is by midday on the first Friday of each month, and the award winner will be announced during the month.
