Recycling the recycling bins
THIS month your smaller, blue recycling bins are not only being replaced with bigger ones to help you recycle more – but they too are being recycled.
Throughout October, tens of thousands of the ‘old’ blue bins are being collected and will soon be chipped and sent to Holland, Belgium and Germany to be made into recycling bins on the Continent.
Cllr Alan Litton, Executive Board member for environment services visited the council’s school brow depot to see the bins being chipped earlier today.
He said: “The council is constantly looking into ways we can reduce the amount we all send to landfill – this new service is just one way we can help residents boost their recycling rate and recycling the old bins was the right thing for us to do.”
The improved fortnightly blue bin scheme is currently being rolled out and the new bins will help people recycle more including tin cans, cardboard, glass, paper and plastic bottles.
To find out more about the new blue bin scheme look out for leaflets through your door, visit www.recycleforwarrington.co.uk or call Contact Warrington on 443322.
