Discover the joys of reading
PIRATE fever will be spreading across Warrington for this year’s Bookstart Day celebrations.
Library staff are supporting the day, aimed at encouraging parents and children to discover the joys of reading together.
The celebrations kick off on Friday 10 October with pirate themed, family fun sessions in Golden Square.
Between 10am and 3pm you can enjoy making pirate hats and eye patches and join in with our pirate songs. Children’s entertainer Ian ‘zippy’ Lees will be wowing crowds between12.30 and 2.30pm.
There will be lots of free giveaways – stickers, bookmarks and even a special book produced for the day. Families will also have the chance to pick up the Bookstart baby book pack if they have missed out on receiving one.
Bookstart aims to help every child in the UK to develop a lifelong love of books and this year's programme will offer millions of children and parents the chance to discover the joy of reading together. Posters, bookmarks and stickers have been designed especially for the day by Portside Pirates illustrator Debbie Harter.
Don’t forget that as it’s the national year of reading there has never been a better time to pick up a book or read something different.
Library membership is free and gives you access to a wide range of other services including family history sessions and internet access.
So what are you waiting for – join today!
