Parking and you

What benefits can I expect to see?

DPE aims to help tackle congestion, car crime, access problems and road accidents by reducing poor parking throughout the town. For more information click here.

Who will be affected by these changes?

The only people who will be adversely affected by these changes are those who park their vehicles illegally, for instance on double yellow lines or loading/waiting restrictions, or in resident only parking zones: the responsibility for parking legally rests with the driver.

Remember double yellow lines are enforceable 24 hours a day, seven days a week, unless the signs say otherwise. However, a single line can generally be parked on after 6pm - but drivers are responsible for checking the applicable times shown on the sign plates alongside the restriction where they are thinking of parking.

Isn't this just another tax on motorists?

No. This scheme will not affect motorists who park legally, correctly and safely. Having fewer instances of illegal parking will improve accessibility and road safety for everyone. A safer town is more attractive for people to visit.

What if i'm disabled?

Blue badge holders should see some positive changes as a result of DPE. To find out more please click here.
