Annual Progress Report 2001
The Annual Progress Report provides a mechanism for local authorities, such as Warrington, to report on how well the Local Transport Plan is being implemented. It also provides an opportunity to document the progress towards achieving the local objectives, national and local targets and outputs.
The report indicates that traffic is growing at an average rate of 3% per annum over the last two years (1999-2001), whilst bus use has been declining by approximately 3% per year over the same period.
Some of the key achievements delivered to date include:
- Establishment of an Urban Traffic Control room in Warrington. The control facility has been moved from Chester to Warrington and now provides a more immediate focus and quicker response to traffic signal issues in Warrington than was the case previously. It provides the foundation for the implementation of the Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) system which will provide real time information for bus passengers and car drivers in Warrington.
- A study and consultation exercise is being undertaken in support of the proposed Bridgefoot Environmental Enhancement Scheme
- A number of pedestrian, cycle and public transport improvements have been implemented, as part of the rolling programme of integrated transport improvements
- A large number of Structural Maintenance and Bridge Improvement schemes have been implemented
The report has been produced only 5 months into the current 5 year plan period. It should therefore be considered as an ‘interim’ report of progress to date.
