Annual Progress Report 2003

The Annual Progress Report 2003 details the significant progress made over the past year, 2002/03 in delivering the LTP in Warrington, including: 

• THE over £6m of improvements including a wide range of improvements for all road users.
• The provisional acceptance in December 2002 of the bid made for Warrington Town Centre Interchange  and details of the progress made in  past 6 months.
• The progress on the Real Time Passenger Information system as part of the UTMC major scheme project, leading to the implementation of real time displays at 150 locations throughout the borough. 
• Structural Maintenance  - in 2002/03 over £1.5m was spent on improving the condition of principal roads in the borough. 
• Centre of Excellence activities. Warrington continues to share best practice with other authorities and as part of the LTP Benchmarking Group has been involved in a number of dissemination activities over the past year.          

The above was achieved against the background of traffic restrictions on M6 Thelwall Viaduct, which has impacted upon the delivery and achievement of the Transport Plan. The restrictions have been in place since July 2002 and have led to a massive increase in traffic in Warrington, therefore increasing congestion around the town. The APR includes a supplementary bid to bring forward a local package of safety and transport improvements in 2004/05 and 2005/06 to run parallel with the work on the viaduct.
