A new-look website and my first Council Leader blog post

Welcome to the new-look website and to my first Council Leader blog post.

LeaderWe’ve had some exciting times in Warrington over the past few months, in particular the royal visit by HM the Queen to open Orford Jubilee Park and the Olympic torch relay through the town.  I was delighted to be part of the celebrations of both events, the support from our residents and local businesses was fantastic and we all should be proud of Warrington’s moment to shine.

Another acclaimed Warrington event, Disability Awareness Day, is coming up at Walton Hall and Gardens shortly which I know will be as brilliant as ever and I would urge you all to attend.  There is plenty more to look forward to over the summer so keep your eye on the events section of this website.

Another thing I wanted to mention was the recent launch of two new trusts, known as community interest companies, LiveWire and Culture Warrington, which are now running the town’s leisure, libraries, lifestyle and cultural services.  The Executive Board approved the not-for-profit organisations in October last year and we are confident that they will deliver vast benefits for residents.

I’d also like to take the opportunity to welcome the council’s new, interim chief executive, Steven Broomhead.  We have a critical task to reshape the council in the light of the huge financial pressures and Steven has an outstanding track record.  And, crucially, he shares our vision for putting the people of Warrington first.

So, once again, welcome to the council website, the improved online forms and searchable directories are just some of the new features which will help you access services and find essential information quicker and easier than ever before.  This is just the first stage of development aiming to provide better transactional services and communication with local residents and businesses through online and other e-services and social media channels.

Don’t forget that your local councillors are here for you – you can contact them at any time or attend one of their councillor surgeries, held regularly in each ward.  If you’re not sure who your local councillors are, just type your postcode into the ‘In my neighbourhood’ search box.

I’ll be updating this blog regularly so I hope you’ll check back for the next update.
