Recruitment of Childminders

How to become a registered childminder
To be registered as a childminder for children aged under 8 you must meet the national standards for childminding.  Ofsted is responsible for registering and inspecting childminders to make sure they meet these standards.

An Ofsted inspector will visit you to make sure that you are suitable to care for children and that your home is a safe, child-friendly place.

New childminders must also pass a paediatric first aid course and complete introductory training in childminding.  All childminders must be insured, have a health check and an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure.

To begin on the registration process you need to attend a childminding pre-registration briefing session where you will find out more about becoming a childminder and how to apply for registration with Ofsted.  You will be given the national standards for childminding and an application pack at this session.  To find out when the next session is, or for further information, contact the Families Information Service 01925 443131.
