Concerns about a childcare provider

Most concerns about your child’s care can be resolved through discussion with the childcare provider.

If you cannot resolve the issue through discussion, you can make a formal complaint to them in writing or by email.

If a concern:

  • cannot be resolved after following the provider's complaints procedure
  • relates to an issue that you cannot discuss with the provider, such as a child protection concern
  • is that someone is caring for children without being registered

you should contact Ofsted who will consider all concerns very carefully providing they relate to the conditions of the childcare providers regsitration. Ofsted will not investigate concerns relating to other matters such as fees.

Sometimes a complaint can trigger child protection concerns (even if this is not your original concern). If this happens, Ofsted must pass on full details to the police and Safeguarding Board.

For advice or to discuss matters of concern you can also contact the Families Information Service on 01925 443131.
