Extended Services and Childcare
Extended services available to school aged children include childcare, a variety of activities for young people, support for parents, easy access to specialist services and community access to local amenities such as computer and sport facilities and adult learning opportunities. Schools and community buildings are ideal venues as they have a range of facilities and are in every community in Warrington.
Childcare
High quality 'wraparound' childcare provided (primary schools) on the school site or through other local providers, available 8am-6pm all year round or to reflect community demand. The types of childcare available could be breakfast clubs, link clubs, holiday play schemes, after-school clubs. Schools will complement not replace existing local provision, for example a school might work with childminders to deliver childcare.
Activities
e.g. Chess clubs, jujitsu, gymnastics, cookery clubs, football, homework clubs, language clubs etc.
Parent support
e.g. Family learning sessions, parent forums, parentcraft, parenting groups, parenting courses etc.
Specialist support
e.g. Speech & language, family support, behaviour support, sexual health services etc.
Community access
e.g. Evening classes, basketball, keep fit, computer courses etc.
There are already extended services available from many schools in Warrington and by 2010 all communities will have access to a full range of extended services in their area.
Services are available to the whole community and will be designed to respond to local needs.
