Support for Birth Parents

If the Local Authority is making plans for the adoption of your child or children, you are likely to be experiencing a whole range of emotions including confusion, anger, apprehension and distress.

You might want advice from an independent person about what is happening and why, and have someone explain to you what will happen next, how the process works and what adoption will mean for you and your child.

Independent support services – Birth Ties
In Warrington, an independent support service is available for birth parents and relatives of children who are or who are going to be adopted.  Warrington Borough Council have made arrangements with ‘Birth Ties’ to offer this support to birth relatives.

Birth Ties is a registered adoption support agency, which has been supporting people affected by Adoption for over 15 years. They can help to support you, if that is what you want.

If there are plans for your child or children to be placed for adoption they can help by listening to what you have to say and by giving you information about the process of adoption. They can support you with any contact arrangements between you and your child and will help you to write letters and prepare information for them.

Talking to others can often help and ‘After Adoption’ can put you in touch with other people going through similar experiences.

It is important to be aware that independent support cannot change the plan for your child or represent you in Court.
