Play opportunities
Play lies at the very heart of childhood. Every child has a right to play – it’s vital to the process of human development. It encourages children to explore the world around them.
We know how important it is for children to have somewhere to go that is theirs, where they can relax, make new friends, enjoy new activities and develop their interests in a safe and appropriate environment.
Opportunities can be limited, so the play development service aims to provide a good quality, safe, stimulating and affordable range of activities for children and young people of all ages in Warrington. All play activities are designed with five outcomes for all our children in mind. These are central to the national Every Child Matters framework –
- Being healthy
- Staying safe
- Enjoying & achieving
- Making a positive contribution
- Economic well-being
Playschemes, after school clubs and other activities
We run after school clubs during term time, and playschemes and other activities during the school summer holidays – usually from around the end of July to the end of August.
Every play session is organised by experienced and trained playleaders. At each session there will be a variety of activities on offer. As part of the activity, the children help to plan the sessions and they can freely choose which activities they take part in.
Our sessions are run along the lines of an agreed Code of Fun policy. Children at a session are involved in discussing, setting up, and implementing this policy. Parents can see a full set of policies at the play session location at any time during the session.
If your child is taken ill or has an accident during the session, we will make every effort to contact you, so please make sure that the contact details we have are up to date.

Other ways you can get involved
We welcome your involvement in helping us to plan and improve our play opportunities. Our partnerships with parents and carers are essential to the quality and development of service, but we are also very keen to hear from children and young people. All staff will be happy to discuss any issues with you. Your suggestions and comments will help us to develop our service.
