Looked after children and young people

Usually being 'Looked After' means a young person is not living at home but is living with foster carers or staying in residential care.

When this happens the Children’s Services department of Warrington Borough Council are responsible for looking after them.  The reasons for becoming looked after can be that:

  • Their mum and/or dad have agreed that they will be Looked After
  • The court has made them subject to an Interim or Full Care Order

Sometimes children and young people who are living at home with their family are subject to a Care Order and because of this they are 'Looked After'.

Corporate Parenting
When children and young people are looked after, Children’s Services are responsible for ensuring that they do what any good parent would do to ensure their health and safety, to support their education and encourage their achievements in life.  This is called Corporate Parenting.  To ensure we can do this, all children and young people who are looked after have a Care Plan which must be regularly reviewed.
