Social Care Assessments
If an assessment is needed, a social worker will contact the family to discuss this and make suitable arrangements to begin the process.
The assessment is intended to be a joint process and will involve the social worker talking to the children as well as the adults in the family. It involves gathering information about the family we are working with and will identify things that are going well as well as any difficulties you may be experiencing.
The assessment will be recorded and the family will have access to a copy.
An Initial Assessment should be completed within seven working days of us receiving the referral.
Core assessments
There are occasions when a more comprehensive assessment is needed. This is called a core assessment and should be completed within 35 working days.
Working together
An assessment is a joint process and is about working with the family and others who may be involved. If we feel that we need to speak to other professionals already involved with your family we will ask your permission to do this.
Special arrangements and cultural and ethnicity issues
Occasionally we will need to make arrangements to ensure that we understand each other and a signer or interpreter may be required. We respect diversity and the importance of a family’s cultural background and ethnicity. This will form part of the assessment.
An assessment is intended to identify family strengths as well as weaknesses and should inform an action plan to address any identified difficulties.
