Eligibility and Entitlement to Leaving Care Support
Eligible Young People
This term refers to young people aged 16 and 17 who are still looked after. To be eligible for leaving care support they must have been looked after for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14. They are entitled to:
- All the provisions of the looked after system
- A personal advisor
- A needs assessment
- A Pathway Plan
Relevant Young People
This term refers to young people aged 16 and 17 who have left care. To be eligible for leaving care support they must have been looked after for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14. They are entitled to:
- A personal advisor (who must keep in touch)
- A needs assessment
- A Pathway Plan
- Assistance to achieve the goals set out in the Pathway Plan
- Accommodation and maintenance
Former Relevant Young People
This term refers to young people aged 18 to 21 who have previously been either an eligible young person or a relevant young person, or both. If the young person is in higher education they are classed as a former relevant young person up to the age of 24. They are entitled to:
- A personal advisor (who must keep in touch for a minimum 4 times a year)
- A Pathway Plan
- Assistance with education and training
- Assistance with employment
- Other general assistance
- Vacation accommodation if they are in higher education, i.e. during the summer holidays
