PHAZE drug intervention
Phaze is a substance intervention service for children and young people in Warrington. We offer information, advice and support to 0-19 year olds affected by their own or someone else’s alcohol, drug or tobacco use.
What Phaze does
We work according to the philosophies of prevention and harm minimisation:
- Prevention is about trying to prevent young people from starting to use drugs and alcohol. We support them through education, advice and information to choose not to use drugs and alcohol.
- Harm minimisation is about accepting that we cannot stop all young people from using drugs and alcohol and therefore we provide information on how to minimise the dangers. We are not encouraging them to take these substances but to make sure they come to no harm if they do.
How we do it
We use games, quizzes, drama workshops and leisure activities to make the learning fun. Sessions can be in groups or one to one.
We have built strong relationships with local schools and communities and we visit known hotspots around Warrington to challenge young people about their behaviour. We have seen vast improvements in some areas regarding anti-social behaviour and the levels of drug and alcohol abuse.
In partnership with other youth work teams, we also offer a range of activities to occupy young people and keep them off the streets, such as football tournaments and under 18 club nights.
Who we work with
Phaze is run by the Warrington Youth Service in partnership with Connexions. We also work with the Youth Offending Team, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and local schools.
We also have an excellent referral scheme due to our relationships with local A&E staff, school nurses and other professionals.
