YISP - Information for Practitioners
YISP has been set up to support young people aged 8-17 who are at risk of becoming involved in offending or anti social behaviour, for example throwing stones, fighting, swearing, shop lifting or causing problems in the area where they live.
It is a multi agency approach, working along side parents/carers, children and young people to ensure that the best outcomes are achieved for young people. Everyone involved contributes to making a programme of support called the family support plan.
Who should be referred?
8-17 year olds who:
- Live in Warrington
- Are at risk of offending
- Are involved in anti social behaviour but may not be known to the Police or Criminal Justice System
- Have received a reprimand from the Police
How do I refer?
All referrals should be made via an FSM01 (Family Support Model 01) form. If this highlights a risk of offending/anti social behaviour, the completed FSM01 should be sent to Jan Dryhurst, YISP co-ordinator.
The YISP is a voluntary intervention; therefore you should ensure that the young person and their parent/carer consents to the referral before contact is made with the YISP.
What happens with YISP?
After receiving a referral, we will contact the young person and complete an Onset assessment. We will then attend the family support meeting with other agencies and contribute to an action plan for the young person.
YISP works with young people both individually and in a group. We will work with a young person for 12 weeks and this will be reviewed on a six-weekly basis. Our interventions focus on reducing the factors which place the young person at risk of behaving in an anti-social manner and increasing positive factors.
Our interventions will be unique to each individual but may include:
- Consequential thinking
- Victim awareness
- Anger management
